$127.82 covers $108.00 in costs after a 15.5% fee. The fee above is rounded up to the next dollar.
| Cleaner | $85.00 |
|---|---|
| Laundry | $15.00 |
| Supplies and restock | $8.00 |
| Turnover cost | $108.00 |
| Platform's cut of the fee | $19.82 |
| Cleaning fee that breaks even | $127.82 |
Fee presets from Airbnb's service fee article, checked Oct 30, 2026: most hosts on the single fee pay 15.5%. Airbnb is moving all home hosts to the single fee; the 3% split fee remains only until each host is switched. A lower cleaning fee with a higher nightly rate is a valid choice too. How to choose.
How it works
How the cleaning fee calculator works
Add up what one turnover costs you, then divide by what's left of each dollar after the platform's percentage. If the platform takes its fee from the cleaning fee too, charging only your cost leaves you short on every stay.
- Cleaning fee = turnover cost ÷ (1 − fee rate)
A worked example
A cleaner at $85, $15 of laundry and $8 of supplies, on Airbnb's 15.5% single fee.
| Cleaner pay | $85.00 |
|---|---|
| Laundry | $15.00 |
| Supplies and restock | $8.00 |
| Turnover cost | $108.00 |
| ÷ (1 − 15.5%) = ÷ 0.845The platform keeps $19.82 of it | $127.82 |
| Cleaning fee to chargeRounded up to the next dollar | $128 |
Charging just $108.00 would leave you $16.74 short on every stay.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't tell you what guests in your area expect to pay.
- It counts your own time only if you enter it as cleaner pay.
- It doesn't add sales or occupancy tax.

Questions hosts ask
Does Airbnb take its fee from the cleaning fee?
Airbnb describes its service fees as a percentage of the nightly price and any fees charged by the host, and a cleaning fee is a fee charged by the host. Leave "Platform fee also applies to the cleaning fee" on unless your payout breakdown says otherwise. Source: Airbnb's service fees page (opens in a new tab).
Should I round the cleaning fee?
Round up, never down. The calculator rounds to the next whole dollar so the fee always covers the cost after the platform's cut.
Should I charge a cleaning fee or raise the nightly rate?
Either can work. A cleaning fee covers each turnover however long the stay is, while folding it into the nightly rate undercharges short stays. Cleaning fee or higher nightly rate runs the numbers.
Is the cleaning fee income?
Yes. What you collect is income, and what you pay your cleaner is a separate cost. For tax questions, ask a tax professional.
