Three guests is usually a couple with a child or three friends, and the third person often sleeps on a sofa bed. That guest has no bedroom to hang a towel in, so a hook or basket next to the sofa bed keeps their towel off the bathroom floor. Our sample is a one-bedroom with one bathroom: a Queen bed and a Twin sofa bed. The math: 3 guests × 3 cycles gives 9 bath towels and 9 washcloths; 1 bathroom × 2 × 3 gives 6 hand towels, plus 3 bath mats.
| Item | On-site laundry (3 cycles) | Off-site or linen service (4 cycles) | Cost on site |
|---|---|---|---|

| Hand towels | 6 | 8 | $29.94 |
| Washcloths | 9 | 12 | $14.97 |
| Bath mats | 3 | 4 | $29.97 |
| Total | 27 | 36 | $146.79 |

Turnover laundry and closet space
Each turnover washes 3 bath towels, 3 washcloths, 2 hand towels and 1 mat: 5 lb, 1 load. Bedding adds 8.2 lb, washed apart from towels. In all, 2 loads take about 3 hours on one washer and dryer, 2 hours inside an 11 am to 4 pm turnover.
Clean spares fill 3 shelves of a 24 in closet: 18 towels and mats, 4 sheet sets and their covers.
Planning weights, dry: bath towel 0.9 lb (VÅGSJÖN specs), Queen set 2.5 lb, Twin set 1.5 lb; 12 lb per load in a 4.5 cu ft washer.
Adjust for your rental
What changes the count
- Laundry off site keeps a set away, which adds a fourth cycle: 9 more pieces for 3 guests (12 bath towels in place of 9).
- Have a second bathroom? Add 6 hand towels and 3 bath mats; bath towels stay at 9, because they follow guests.
- Hang the sofa-bed guest's towel on a hook in the living room rather than the bathroom bar, so three towels don't crowd one rack.
Frequently asked questions
Does the sofa-bed guest need a separate towel set?
No, just their share: 1 bath towel and 1 washcloth per cycle, already part of the 9 and 9 above. The towel can be white like the rest; a labeled hook is enough to keep it apart.
Does a third guest change the hand towels?
No. Hand towels follow bathrooms, and our model keeps one bathroom up to 4 guests, so the count stays at 6. The third guest adds 3 bath towels and 3 washcloths.
