How many towels do you need for 10 guests?
Short answer
For 10 guests with laundry done on site, plan on 30 bath towels, 18 hand towels, 30 washcloths and 9 bath mats: one set in use, one in the wash and one spare. With off-site laundry or a linen service, plan on 40 bath towels, 24 hand towels and 40 washcloths.

Ten guests is a reunion or a multi-family trip, and the towel pile gets big enough that guests lose track of whose is whose. Labeled hooks in each bedroom and one per bunk keep everyone on one towel for the stay instead of reaching for fresh ones. Our sample is a 4-bedroom home with 3 bathrooms: a King bed, two Queen beds, two Twin beds and a Full sofa bed. The math: 10 guests × 3 cycles gives 30 bath towels and 30 washcloths; 3 bathrooms × 2 × 3 gives 18 hand towels, plus 9 bath mats.
| Item | On-site laundry (3 cycles) | Off-site or linen service (4 cycles) | Cost on site |

Turnover laundry and closet space
Each turnover washes 10 bath towels, 10 washcloths, 6 hand towels and 3 mats: 16 lb, 2 loads. Bedding adds 25.6 lb, washed apart from towels. In all, 5 loads take about 6 hours on one washer and dryer, 1 hour past a 4 pm check-in, so the spare set goes out while the rest dries.
Clean spares fill 8½ shelves of a 24 in closet: 58 towels and mats, 12 sheet sets and their covers.
Planning weights, dry: bath towel 0.9 lb (VÅGSJÖN specs), King set 3 lb, Queen set 2.5 lb, Twin set 1.5 lb, Full set 2 lb; 12 lb per load in a 4.5 cu ft washer.

What changes the count
- Laundry off site keeps a set away, which adds a fourth cycle: 29 more pieces for 10 guests (40 bath towels in place of 30).
- With 2 bathrooms instead of 3, 10 guests need 12 hand towels and 6 mats; the 30 bath towels stay, because they follow guests.
- Big groups often arrive in waves. Set out every bath towel before the first car pulls in, so nobody waits on the dryer.
Frequently asked questions
Should each guest get a different towel color?
Keep towels white so they wash together and match when you rebuy. Give each bedroom its own hooks instead: the towel stays with the room, not the color.
How long does the laundry take for 10 guests?
About 16 lb of towels (2 loads) and 25.6 lb of bedding (3 loads) per turnover. With one washer and dryer that's about 6 hours, more than the 5 hours between an 11 am checkout and a 4 pm check-in, so the spare cycle goes on the beds and racks while the rest dries.
