What do Superhost and Guest Favorite require?
Short answer
Superhost is a host status. You need a 4.8 or higher overall rating, a 90% response rate, a cancellation rate under 1% and at least 10 stays (or 3 stays totaling 100 nights) over the past 12 months, checked on Jan 1, Apr 1, Jul 1 and Oct 1. Guest Favorite is a per-listing badge, checked daily, for homes with at least 5 reviews and excellent ratings, plus a host cancellation and quality-issue rate of 1% or less. Airbnb doesn't publish a minimum rating for Guest Favorite.
Superhost and Guest Favorite look similar to guests, but they work differently. Superhost belongs to you as a host and is checked four times a year against published numbers. Guest Favorite belongs to each listing, is checked every day and is based on comparisons with other homes, with no published rating cutoff. Everything below comes from Airbnb's help center, read on Nov 4, 2026. Airbnb can change these criteria, and HostCalmly is not affiliated with Airbnb.
Superhost requirements
Airbnb's Superhost requirements (opens in a new tab) apply to listing owners of home listings with accounts in good standing. Co-hosted listings don't count toward eligibility.
| Requirement | Airbnb's standard |
|---|---|
| Stays | At least 10 reservations, or 3 reservations totaling at least 100 nights |
| Response rate | Respond to 90% of new messages, and accept or decline new reservation requests within 24 hours |
| Cancellation rate | Less than 1% |
| Overall rating | 4.8 or higher |
Details that matter:
- Declining requests doesn't hurt you. Airbnb says declining doesn't affect status. Not responding within 24 hours does.
- Valid cancellations don't count. Cancellations due to major disruptive events or other valid reasons don't count against your cancellation rate. Our page on canceling as a host lists those reasons.
- When a review counts. A review counts once both parties have reviewed or the 14-day review window has closed, whichever comes first.
- Status can be withheld. Airbnb says it may suspend or withhold Superhost status from hosts with high review removal rates or high host-initiated cancellation rates.
The assessment schedule
Airbnb checks Superhost status every 3 months, on Jan 1, Apr 1, Jul 1 and Oct 1. Each check looks back over the past 12 months, though you don't need to have hosted for all 12. There's no application. If you qualify, Airbnb notifies you at the end of the assessment period, and the badge can take up to a week to appear. If you meet the criteria between assessment dates, you get the status at the next assessment if you still qualify.
The next assessment after this page was written is Jan 1, 2027. Reviews published after a period ends count toward the next one.
To see where you stand, Airbnb's tracking article (opens in a new tab) says to go to Performance, then Superhost. Airbnb emails you when you gain, keep or lose status.
Guest Favorite requirements
Airbnb has two help articles on this, Guest Favorites (opens in a new tab) and Guest favorites and highlights (opens in a new tab). Together they say:
- Reviews. At least 5 reviews in the past 4 years, with at least 1 in the past 2 years.
- Ratings. Excellent overall ratings, plus high marks in the six categories: check-in, cleanliness, accuracy, communication, location and value.
- Reliability. Host cancellations and quality-related customer service issues averaging 1% or less.
- Review removal rate is also a factor.
- Communication between guests and hosts on the platform counts.
Airbnb says homes are compared with other homes globally, within their country or both. It does not publish a minimum overall rating, a minimum category score or how much each factor weighs. It also says additional factors may apply and are subject to change. Anyone who quotes you an exact cutoff is guessing.
Listings are evaluated automatically every day, and each listing is judged on its own. The articles don't describe an application or a way to request a review.
Side by side
| Feature | Superhost | Guest Favorite |
|---|---|---|
| Applies to | You, the listing owner | Each listing separately |
| How often checked | Quarterly | Daily |
| Rating threshold published | Yes, 4.8 overall | No |
| Cancellation standard | Under 1% | 1% or less, combined with quality issues |
You can hold both. Airbnb says a Superhost with a qualifying listing shows both the Superhost status and the Guest Favorite badge.
How guests see them
Superhost. Superhost listings and profiles show a badge.
Guest Favorite. Qualifying listings show a badge in search results, and guests can filter search to show only Guest Favorites. Airbnb also ranks homes into percentiles. Listings in the top 1%, 5% or 10% get a gold trophy icon, a gold badge, a highlight at the top of the listing page and a label above the reviews. Listings in the bottom 10% get only a label above the reviews, and only after Airbnb has already contacted the host about quality.
Airbnb's search article (opens in a new tab) says the algorithm considers the Superhost criteria (cancellations, responsiveness and ratings and reviews) when ordering results. It doesn't say either badge is a ranking factor on its own. See how Airbnb search ranking works for what Airbnb publishes.
What you can work on
These map directly to the published criteria. None of them guarantees either badge.
- Response rate. Turn on notifications and answer every new message and request within 24 hours. Saved replies for common questions help. Our guest message tool drafts them.
- Cancellations. Keep your calendar accurate so you never have to cancel for a double booking. Only cancel for a valid reason, with proof.
- Check-in rating. Send clear arrival instructions before the stay. Our check-in instructions message and self check-in guide cover this.
- Cleanliness rating. Use the same written checklist at every turnover. Our Airbnb cleaning checklist is a starting point.
- Accuracy rating. Make sure photos, amenities and house rules match the home today.
- Communication. Keep messages on Airbnb, since on-platform communication is part of Guest Favorite.
- Reviews. If a guest leaves a critical review, reply calmly and factually. Our negative review response template helps.
